ISKCON DEVOTEES IN INDIA

The term ISKCON stands for “International Society for Krishna Consciousness”, which is a prestigious organization or institution, responsible for the worldwide preaching of Lord Krishna, especially among Westerners. Its headquartered in Nadia district of West Bengal, INDIA where it has an imposing and massive temple, that is purely dedicated to Lord Krishna, the flute bearer. It is from here that the ISKCON temples all over India and throughout the world, get their religious instructions, and it is also the administrative headquarters. This massive Hindu temple is located at a place called Mayapur in West Bengal, which attracts devotees and tourists from across India, and throughout the globe. Once you visit this grand temple, you are simply awestruck to see its magnificence in the form of architecture and soft elegance in its ambiance. The temple premises are filled with overseas devotees of Lord Krishna that permanently reside here with their family and children, and sing songs in praise of the Lord, throughout the day and night. The women are dressed in uni-color traditional sarees (cotton) and the men in white dhoti and kurta (top). This is surely a spectacle worth viewing that you won’t find in any other Hindu temple as it is unique in its own way.

As soon as you set foot at ISKCON temple in Mayapur, the air resonates with the chants of Hare Krishna and Hare Rama, as everyone greets you in this fashion. It is a religious and festive atmosphere every time of the year, as devotees throng this temple during special occasions like Krishna Janmashtami, Holi and the annual Rath Yatra. Being at ISKCON during one of these special occasions, is treat for your eyes and your senses, as the overwhelming feel of devotion, the bright colors, the fragrance of fresh flowers and the devotional music, coupled with the Maha Prasadam or the Bhog, is simply alluring. It’s hard to resist yourself from one such carnival like atmosphere here at ISKCON, that makes this place truly joyful and pleasant. The Indian and Western devotees dance and sing in the praise of the Lord in pure traditional Indian attires, which is something unique for every Indian. The overseas female devotees and even their young girls are in soft cotton sarees in off-white or cream color, and the men in same color dhoti and kurtas. So, this is something that you cannot afford to miss at any cost, and you take home some wonderful memories for life.
